The two things we love the most here at Helmet are sci-fi and monsters, so obviously we were very happy when Geir Mogen & HK came to us with this project.
Together with Geir Mogen we really nailed the workflow on this one: Before anything else, Alex designed and sculpted the monster in Zbrush. On the day of the shoot we brought a laptop and modeled a room to match the actual set, and put the monster in it. We could then experiment and get immediate feedback on how the monster would look in any given camera angle and lighting setup.
This was also a major advantage in post as we could simply drop new iterations of the monster into the all ready perfectly matched and lit scene.
We hope we get the chance to make more monsters!
