Realizing we had to shoot some scenes in LA, we couldn’t keep our pants on.

We finally got to shoot some scenes in Hollywood ^^

Atmel Corporation is a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of capacitive touch solutions. When they came to us and told us they needed an awesome film to launch their new maXTouch technology, we were thrilled. Then, when it became clear we needed to shoot some of the scenes in L.A., we couldn’t keep our pants on.

The film is about how touch-technology will be everywhere, and features lots of different locations; from the snowy plains of Tromsø to the sandy beaches of Malibu.

With so many locations, the deadline was extremely tight. Luckily Atmel had their own vfx people within their marketing department in Norway, so while on shoot in the states we would send back footage, which they immediately started tracking and rotoscoping to prepare for the interface overlays.

Since there weren’t no actual touch enabled products available, Helmet had to design some prototypes which where beautifully crafted by Ula Jern. The interface designs were done by Divensis Design.

Agency Scanpartner had already made a nice animated storyboard for this film when Helmet was brought in. This was a welcomed change because it meant we could immediately start focusing on the execution.

The idea was to show how NTE empowers their region with clean power and fibre internet, by having lightbeams traveling across landscapes. We wanted these light beams to affect the world as much as possible, so we decided to do the effects for real.

We bought the most powerful yet portable light we could get our hands on, and at first built a rig to hang them from a helicopter. We started our 4-day shoot with this setup, and the results were good, but the approach didn’t give us the freedom or speed we wanted. On the way to our next location, we quickly developed a new technique using multiple takes and long exposures, while moving the lights by hand, boat and car. We did some testing in after effects and decided this was the way to go.

The rest of the shoot went as planned, with two near-death experiences and an impromptu helicopter ride that ended up stranding us on a deserted island.

The latest Mogen + Helmet combo takes place in the wonderful land of Sjøhaven – a new and exciting housing project inspired by the Garden City movement.

Agency Black Moose wanted to do something different to show just how special this housing project was, and challenged us to create a curious fantasy world that exaggerated some of Sjøhavens features.

Combined still photos with slow-mo footage to create dreamy flavor intros.

Rosenborg and Sparebank1 wanted to use the yearly “RBK School of Football” event to inspire young footballers. In a series of interviews, the stars talk about dreams and how to realize them through determination, hard work, and economic responsibility.

The interviews were divided into different chapters, each with their own intro. To give them all a dreamy flavor we combined still photos with slow-mo footage, projected everything on 3D planes, and added camera motion and particles in post. Easy-peasy!

These last months have been all work and no play, so it’s nice to be forced to get drunk once in a while :) In the picture it totally looks like Øystein was there partying with us. Due to an ongoing shoot, he wasn’t. I’ve actually photoshopped him in with me on top of Aasmunds face. Stay tuned for a tutorial!

Helmet had two submissions in the commercials category, and were awarded the following:
